One of my basic tenets of advise to my clients who are looking for a Relationship using Online Dating Services is:

Be Truthful in your profile. 

But what about the men you are viewing at the Online Dating sites like Match.com? 

Is he LYING in his Online Dating profile?

How can you tell?

Indeed, through the research he has done, Body Language Expert, Kevin Hogan has written about How We Lie, and how it is easier to lie over the phone and over the internet.  Indeed, contending with men who are lying in the Online Dating Profile and determining deception is something women as me about weekly.

So, what are some things to look for?

Is he lying about his age?

Take a look at his profile.  Does he include a photograph of him and his daughter, and in the photograph she looks 5 years old?  And then in the text of his profile he talks about his daughter and her college years?  He may be telling you the truth about his age in his profile, but his profile photograph is marketing himself as being 10 years younger than he is.  Yes indeed, that's lying.  He is lying to you in his profile.  This is just so uncool.  And it would be a waste of your time to go on a Date 0 with this lying loser.

So many women who want to become my client and are afraid of Online Dating, one of their biggest fears is that men are lying in their Online Dating profiles.  How can I tell?  Maybe he's married? Does his profile say he is single, but when you meet him you find out he is only just recently separated?  That is a married man.  And he will continue to be a married man for a few to several months in order to get through his divorce.  And just because he is separated does not mean he will go through with the divorce.  As ladies, we need to protect ourselves, be smart, and be safe while pursuing love at Online Dating sites. 

Is he really 6' 4"?  How will I know?  And even if I meet him, what if he is lying to me and is really clinically depressed?  Or is lying about his job?  Does he say he's making over $100K and yet in his profile photograph he's sitting in a small office cubicle?  He might be earning that much, or he might be lying to you in his Online Dating Profile. 

I really understand.  As women, part of being feminine is to Be Trusting.  However, we can also be SMART and TRUSTING.  We need to make a point to continue to educate ourselves, and one way is to learn more about How to Read Body Language Like an Expert so when we meet men from Online Dating, we can read them accurately and detect deception.
